  • New York Cares Coat Drive Warms the City- and Winter's Eve!

    November 9, 2011

The Lincoln Square BID is delighted to announce that this year’s Winter’s Eve charitable partner will be the annual New York Cares Coat Drive, which supplies coats to over 50,000 women, men and children in New York City. To meet the growing demand for coats, the Coat Drive begins early this year, running from November 15 through December 31. New York Cares hopes to collect 100,000 gently used or new coats to help the 18.7% of New York City families that live below the poverty line, and through our partnership with New York Cares, we have set up three coat drop-off locations throughout the Lincoln Square district. In addition to these permanent locations, several other local businesses and organizations have agreed to serve as drop-off locations the night of Winter’s Eve.

In this brisk holiday season, the New York Cares Coat Drive is a valuable way for New Yorkers to come together and give back to those in need in their communities, and we are proud to be a part of this effort. Please see below for coat drop-off locations:

    November 15 - December 31:

    - The American Bible Society at Broadway and 61st Street

    - The West Side YMCA at 63rd Street, between Broadway and Central Park West

    - YogaWorks at 37 65th Street, 4th Floor between Columbus and Central Park West

    November 28 (Winter's Eve):

  • Hurricane Irene Advisory

    August 26, 2011

Hurricane Irene is on its way up the east coast and a hurricane watch is in effect for New York City, indicating that hurricane conditions are possible within 48 hours.

New York City's Office of Emergency Management urges New Yorkers to find out if they live in a hurricane evacuation zone. Click here for a PDF of the NYC hurricane evacuation zones. Even though Hurricane Irene may weaken before it reaches New York, it will still bring hurricane force winds, extreme rainfall, significant coastal flooding and a potential tornado threat. Widespread wind damage and power outages are also likely throughout the Northeast, so please be prepared and take precautions before the storm hits. The MTA will begin its shut down of the entire transit system at noon tomorrow, Saturday, August 27, 2011.

Con Edison is also on high alert and is preparing for the possibility of extensive outages to electric, gas and steam customers. Con Edison customers can report power interruptions or service problems as well as view service restoration information online at www.conEd.com. You may also call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).

Under §28-301.1 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, property owners are legally obligated to maintain their properties in a safe condition. All property owners and ground floor businesses should bring inside any free standing or loose objects such as sandwich boards, litter receptacles, furniture, and planters to avoid dangerous conditions. As a precaution, the Lincoln Square BID will be relocating and securing area garbage cans, securing our tables and chairs, removing umbrellas and our Information Kiosks. READ
