Britto Art Exhibit

Stop by Time Warner Center to see pop artist Romero Britto’s latest exhibit. Romero Britto (b.1963) is a Brazilian artist based in Miami. Born in the disadvantaged area of Recife, he was self-taught at an early age by painting on surfaces such as newspapers. In 1983, he traveled to Paris where he was introduced to the work of Matisse and Picasso. He combined influences from cubism with pop to create a vibrant and iconic style that The New York Times describes, “exudes warmth, optimism and love.”

Printers, Monks & Craftsmen

This exhibition looks at the transitional period in hand press bookmaking through 14 Bibles printed between 1455 and 1525. As the era progressed, printers and other craftsmen involved in the production of a printed volume began to experiment with the possibilities hand press production afforded to create innovative, elegant books. Focusing on Gothic bindings and the structure of a selection of books drawn from the Rare Bible Collection a MOBIA, conservator Clare Manias explores regional differences in the volumes' styles, production, and form illustrating that printed books have stories to tell and are much more than what's between the covers. The Adoration of the Magi by Bartolo di Fredi

Illustrating one of the most celebrated Renaissance themes, Bartolo di Fredi’s (c. 1330-1410) Adoration of the Magi will be reunited in this groundbreaking exhibition. The three known surviving panels of this Siense master’s unrivaled altarpiece are considered by many to be among Bartolo’s finest works. Composed of a monumental central panel depicting a tender visit of the Magi to the Christ Child, his Crucifixion and the mourning it brings, “Adoration of the Magi” by Bartolo di Fredi: A Masterpiece Reconstructed permits an in-depth study of this oft-depicted Christian narrative. Ethics and the Theater- How Long is Never? Darfur: A Response.

Ethics and the Theatre presents readings of two short plays from the collection of seven plays titled, “How Long is Never? Darfur: A Response.” These plays were written by an informal group of writers working with the Tricycle Theatre Group in London. They were inspired by Mia Farrow's report of conditions in Darfur after her visit there in 2006. We will be reading the first and last play in the collection: Many Men’s Wife, written by Amy Evans, and Giving? Again?, by Lynn Nottage. After the reading, Paula Claycomb will moderate a discussion of the plays. The readings are being directed by Richard Van Deusen. Entry to our 100-year-old building and meeting rooms is available for most wheelchair users with prior arrangements. Planet of Snail portrays Young-Chan who is deaf and blind. He lives with his wife, Soon-Ho, who is his soul mate, an inseparable part of his life, and a window to the outside world. They communicate with one another through finger braille, a unique form of touch-based sign language in which words are tapped on each other's hands. Planet of Snail’s breathtaking imagery, coupled with Young-Chan's personal writings, creates a transfixing portrait of life on what seems like another planet, where touch communicates everything and love conquers all.
